About Me
My journey in the finance and the mortgage industry kicked off in 1985 when I joined ITT Financial Services followed shortly by and high-rate mortgage driven Transamerica Financial Services. The sales training I received in that short time was invaluable, setting the stage for my recruitment to Coosa Federal Savings and Loan Association. It was there that I first dipped my toes into funding broker loans, confirming that this was the path I wanted to pursue.
In 1987, while attending Jacksonville State University, my wife and I launched our own business. We both graduated from JSU, with my degree in Finance and minors in Real Estate and Management. Susan's was in marketing. We have a good mix of skills at my office.
Our Home and Office
We live on the beautiful banks of the Coosa River where it meets Cove Creek in Hokes Bluff, just minutes from our office on Broad Street in historic Downtown Gadsden Alabama.
Family and Business
Together, we've nurtured our family and business, raising two children, Laura and Trey, who now work with us at First Equity Home Loan Inc. Our granddaughter Laikyn occasionally helps, suggesting that we might see a third generation taking on the business full-time in the future.
Professional Contributions
I have served as an officer and board member with AMPA, formerly known as Alabama Mortgage Brokers Association. In my role as legislative chair, I was one of the NAMB delegates representing our interests in Washington, D.C., discussing critical mortgage issues with NAMB/Congress. This advocacy work was pivotal in our strategic shift from mortgage brokering to mortgage banking, where we now fund most loans, apart from FHA loans, which we continue to broker.
Market Insight
I also take pride in having foreseen the mortgage crisis in 1998, well before it hit the headlines and devasted our economy. That's a subject for another day, but I like to think I have good instinct in the markets.
Community Involvement
My wife and I have always been committed to our community, having spent years coaching youth baseball, football, and cheerleading squads while our kids were in school, fostering enduring relationships with many "now" young adults that call on us with their home financing needs.
